This year, I turned 35 years old. I was at the lowest point I had been in my life in terms of my health. I knew something had to change, but I didn’t know what to do. In the depths of despair, I went to see a doctor for weight loss. Eat this, don’t eat that, take this pill, and come back in a month. I KNEW there had to be a better way.

I have struggled with weight most of my adult life. I have tried a little bit of everything in the past – calorie counting, counting points, fad “diets.” I would have some success with these methods, but it was nothing that I could stick with long term.

I have friends at work that have done the Clean Kitchen 12 Week Challenge and live the CK way of life. They encouraged me to sign up for Clean Kitchen and just do it. Without giving myself time to think too much about it or talk myself out of it, I enrolled for the Winter 2018 challenge.
The past 12 weeks have gone by so fast for me. This program is designed for anyone to be successful. I’m not sure how they’ve done it, but the daily lessons are timed perfectly. You get what you need when you need it. I also had a great coach who guided me, coached me, encouraged me, and helped me see the positive – even when I didn’t want to.
As a result of my CK experience, I lost a total of 18 pounds and 23.75 inches. It has been amazing to see the changes that happen simply from changing what goes in my body. I went from feeding my body garbage to feeding my body the things that it needs to function better. I have a whole new perspective on food. And the best part was that I didn’t go hungry at all. As a matter of fact, I have been eating more food than I used to. It’s just wholesome, healthy food. No gimmicks, no pills, no counting anything – just simple habits that are easy to integrate in to day to day life.
In addition to the physical changes on the outside, my blood pressure is lower, my lipid panel has improved greatly, and my glucose levels are better than what they were.
Although the 12 weeks are over, I’m already enrolled in the Clean Kitchen 2.0 program and I have signed up for a Versus boot camp. I lost a lot during the 12 week program, but gained so much more! I am excited to see where the next phase leads. I like to tell people that if I can do this, anyone can! It has been life changing.

On January 3rd, I went to my doctor for my annual wellness visit. I topped 300 pounds for the first time in my life. All of my bloodwork was at dangerous levels. I knew I had to change something. All the more with a 4-1/2-year-old son at home and a daughter on the way. My doctor mentioned Clean Kitchen to me and I was intrigued. That was 31 pounds ago. That amazing fact is made even more incredible by that fact that my wife and I welcomed our second child in the middle of this twelve-week challenge. 

I thought I was going to learn how to eat better, but I learned so much more than that. I learned a whole new paradigm about food, eating, and my body. I learned how to keep it simple with the habits. I learned tips to make eating well doable in the midst of a busy season of life. My coach helped me to look at my eating without shame, but always looking for victories and for what can be improved. I learned to understand what my body was telling me about what I needed to eat or drink.

I learned that being level 2 (eating the best I can) was always my goal, but that level 1 (eating healthy and fulfilling my habits) was still a great way to eat and live. Amidst the craziness of our second child, with people bringing us food and sweets, I managed to maintain my habits and some progress, even though it slowed. As the craziness of the new baby has stabilized, I am moving back to level 2 and making faster progress again. I am so proud of myself for what I have achieved and I am thankful for everything that Clean Kitchen has done to help me become a better and healthier man. I cannot wait to see how far I will go before my next wellness visit next January.

Belinda Teston: The Slump

I was in a perpetual slump.  I worked out at Versus Strength & Conditioning at least 3 times a week and I had heard about Clean Kitchen program, but lacked confidence in my ability to actually do it.  I have done gym challenges where I would lose weight but then sadly, gained it back slowly. I did not realize that I was sabatoging my own progress by not really changing what counts…my habits.

My fast-food ritual of eating made me feel sane in this crazy world.  I had become comfortable with my unhealthy eating habits. These eating habits had developed by convenience and stress, which in-turn, caused my excess body fat to go up and my self-confidence dropped. I would rationalize my reasons for overeating.  Pigging-out was a way to self-medicate my tension. I felt like I needed these foods and that I deserved to eat these foods even though I knew they were doing to me.

Then Clean Kitchen 12 Week Challenge absolutely changed my life.

Chelsey Everett: Enlightenment

Years of emotional eating, anxiety, and depression combined with Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome led to me being over twice what a normal weight for my height and age should be. I was always a bigger kid, I had kind of accepted that; but when my mom passed away from complications of diabetes and heart disease, food immediately became my comfort and my shield.

My life before Clean Kitchen

 What I thought was a total breakdown in 2014, ended up being a breakthrough. I was getting up at 3:30 in the morning to go to the gym, taking my dad to work, going to work as a graduate assistant, then going to work a part time job. After a full day, I would go pick my dad up, and then complete graduate school work until at least midnight. This was my normal Monday through Friday schedule, which caused intense stress. Because of all this stress, I started having panic attacks, complete with chest pains, heart palpitations, dizziness, and pain in my arms; I thought I was having a heart attack.

I ended up in the emergency room twice because of a panic attack only to be told I was fine and given Xanax to calm down. I never knew if the next panic attack I had would really be a heart attack. My diet definitely wasn’t helping. I was usually skipping breakfast or grabbing something from a drive thru. I almost always worked through lunch only to hit up another drive thru after work or just eat entirely too much at dinner.

I realized I was not even 24 years old and too young to feel this way. I was only 10 years younger than my mom was when she passed away and I knew I couldn’t continue to live like that. I thought that maybe I just needed a different workout routine.

I hired a personal trainer and started working out 3-4 times a week. My trainer was beyond phenomenal. I thought I should be able to eat what I want and workout and be fine, right? So wrong. I never lost a pound… and I was pissed. I became severely depressed causing me not to care about school work or either of my jobs. I would only allow myself one meal a day and, while I lost weight, I felt terrible. My hair was falling out, I wasn’t sleeping, I was still constantly anxious and I was honestly tired of trying. I knew I had to do something, but I didn’t know what that something was.

I found Clean Kitchen and everything changed.

After months of trying almost everything under the sun, Clean Kitchen entered my life and completely changed my view on food, weight loss, and living a healthy lifestyle. The program taught me to use food is fuel and not therapy. It taught me that I can be that person who cooks meals at home that are not only healthy, but also taste delicious; that I can be the person who brings a lunch to work every day instead of eating out; and that I can be the person who makes better choices because they care about their health and want to live a long, healthy life. Clean Kitchen taught me that eating healthy is easier when you can say “I don’t want that” instead of “I can’t have it.” The 12 Week program isn’t about deprivation at all. It is about enlightenment. The Clean Kitchen 12 Week Challenge teaches you how to plan and prepare for normal life situations. Whether you’re working late, have an event come up, or just don’t feel like cooking.

In 12 weeks, I lost 43 lbs. and over 40 inches, but I gained so much more. If you are on the fence about doing something, do THIS. You will have a completely changed outlook for the rest of you life!




4 Reasons why you should do Clean Kitchen

Sluggish. Moody. Sleepless. Bloated. Quickly expanding.

These are some of the words I would use to describe me before the Clean Kitchen 12 Week Challenge. Yet, the most accurate word that truly pinpoints my life at that point is “frustrated.”

I was frustrated with myself for knowing alot of what to do but still unable to get back on track.

I was frustrated by the cycle of feeling too sluggish to prep or cook, grabbing a bite to eat from wherever, and then crashing and burning, just to continue the same cycle the next day.

I was frustrated with the scale. It just kept moving upward. It was so unbelievable that I seriously contemplated purchasing a new one…just in case mine was off a little or a lot.

Mostly, I was frustrated with me because the person I saw in the mirror each day was inconsistent with the knowledge I had or the lifestyle I completely believed in. The incongruency bothered, even embarrassed me. Yet, with all of my knowledge and desires, I could not seem to get back on track. My life was out of control, and so was my weight.

I needed something. I did not need a pipe dream, gimmick, or fancy slogan that was thought up to make money. I did not need a get-skinny-quick scheme. I did not need a pill or a potion that had been cooked up in a lab, something I would always have to keep buying to feel “extra normal.”

None of those things was to be part of my story. I needed something real, something I could sustain, and something that aligned with my core beliefs about health, although I was anything but a picture of health at that moment.

After researching Clean Kitchen, I felt that it aligned with what I believed in, and the pictures of past participants boasted great weight loss. With nothing to lose but a few rolls, I was all in. I was most optimistic about the weight loss at first, but after internalizing CK’s core concepts, it became clear to me that this would be more than a weight loss venture. Clean Kitchen was not a program. It was a lifestyle of change and maintenance, restoring me back to a place where I honored the fact that I was fearfully and wonderfully made.

While I must admit, I went into Clean Kitchen for one reason, to lose weight, I gained so much more. I had foolishly wrecked my body prior to CK, and this vessel needed to heal..the right way. What I gained in the first few months confirmed that CK was the right choice for me and that I was changing from the inside out. My eyes were brighter. My skin was more youthful. I honestly felt better than I had felt in YEARS! I was sleeping through the night, and my sugar cravings were gone.

I was no longer just surviving; I was thriving.

Eventually, I recognized some external mile markers that were the result of all the changes that had been taking place under the surface, changes that were hidden from me at first: feeling good enough to get back into the gym, the first day I ran and realized there was no longer a belly jiggle, wearing a dress that I had not been able to wear comfortably in two years, measuring a 14-inch loss, and having my husband say, “When I wrap my arms around your waist, the difference is noticeable.” Broccoli points for him!

Four aspects that set Clean Kitchen apart from every other program I either tried or looked into; and cause me to recommend it above all else.

1: CK’s focus was not on calorie restriction or quantity of food but more on quality. Just eat real food. The real food that I am now consistently eating has given me real life, a life I feel good enough to live now.

2: There’s no generic meal plan I was held to. So, I never got bored of eating the same old thing. We were taught not just the “what” of eating but the “why,” and once I understood the why, it was easy for me to comply.

3: The CK program is well-organized and put together in a way that is sensible and avoids overload. You get the information in a layered manner so that it really solidifies the foundation and then builds strategically from there.

4: The most distinguishable aspect of Clean Kitchen is the coaching. Hands down! It makes all the difference. The coaches truly understand nutrition and how all the aspects of nutrition work together to give you the body that is a picture of health, a body that shows you are grateful for life and that you get to live your life in that body. These coaches were there for so much more than just accountability. They constantly encouraged me, helped me when it seemed as if the scale had gotten stuck, and helped me tweak various aspects to get even greater results. Important to me was the fact that they each lived what they were teaching. I could see it in their eyes, hear it in their inflection, and sense it in their passion that they wanted me to be successful. I felt that I was more than a dollar sign. I was their mission, and it showed in every interaction, every e-mail, and every high-five! They set me up to be successful beyond a program, and although Clean Kitchen, the program, has ended for me, Clean Kitchen, the lifestyle is still in effect.

Thanks, Clean Kitchen and our coaches. I honestly believe that when I chose those 12 weeks, I chose life, and my life is filled with gratitude for what you did for me.

The Clean Kitchen 12 Week Challenge was the best thing I have ever done for my health. I have learned so much! I’m not really sure how or why the program is so effective, but it has made a world of difference for me. Prior to Clean Kitchen, I knew my eating habits were terrible and my cholesterol was not where it should be. Every time I’d make a poor food choice (which felt like it was 9 out of 10 times), I’d have this tremendous guilt that I wasn’t taking care of myself. After Clean Kitchen, not only can I confidently say I am consistently now a Level 1 eater, but I also know without doubt what constitutes a good food choice. And even though I haven’t been food logging the last couple of weeks, my clean eating habits have remained intact! They are in fact “habits!”

I have lost 17 pounds and many inches. I am wearing clothes I haven’t been able to wear in a long time (which makes me feel like I have a whole new wardrobe). I feel so much better and gone is the guilt of making poor food choices. My biggest accomplishment, however, is having my doctor telling me my cholesterol numbers look great! No cholesterol medicine for me…thank you very much!!!!! That has got to be what I am most happy about!

It is never too late to start

I’ve been overweight since I was 48 years old. When I first began to put on a few pounds, I thought it was funny, because I had always been very thin. But over the next 18 years I gained 70 pounds. I enrolled in weight-loss programs and exercise programs, and for the past five years I met weekly with a nutritionist. There was always some success, but I never stuck to any program. I was strong in so many aspects of my life, but I felt like a complete failure when it came to controlling what went into my mouth.

Sound Bites: Month 2


Month 2 of the Clean Kitchen Challenge is a really important phase for clients. Month 2 is when things really start clicking and clients start trusting the process. It is not surprising that we get majority of women who sign up for Clean Kitchen 12 Week Challenge. But we do have those few brave men who take action. We are so proud of the change and progress you have made, not only physically, but that whole mindset change too!

I played sports all through my childhood and into college, and I could generally eat whatever I wanted and still feel and look fit. I never really had a problem with weight, and because of that I guess I thought that I knew enough about what was good or bad for you. Fast-forward 15 years and my mindset about how my body processed food never changed. I mean home-made spaghetti, or pork chops with mashed potatoes and gravy have to be better than McDonald’s, right? I didn’t need any help (I thought) – I wasn’t skinny, but I didn’t really think of myself as too fat…

A few years ago I started to notice that all I had the energy to do was go to work, play with the kids for a few minutes when I came home, and then go to bed. My family was getting the short end of the stick and I felt tired and slow all the time. I knew that I could probably do a better job eating a little healthier, but I really just felt like I needed to be more active. I would join a gym and be super dedicated to 2-day per week workouts for every bit of 2 weeks, and then something would derail me. Six months later I would do the same thing – gym, kill it for 2 weeks, and then fall off again.

In January of 2017 I was the heaviest I had ever been at 246 pounds. I was really starting to be embarrassed about how I looked and how clothes fit me, and could really tell that any physical exertion just about required an oxygen tank. I knew I had to make a serious change.

Before I joined Clean Kitchen, I honestly thought it was just a “girl” thing and not many dudes actually signed up for the program. But I wasn’t getting any younger and definitely wasn’t getting any thinner, so I thought I would kinda secretly join Clean Kitchen to lose a little weight and start to get back in shape. I quickly found out that CK was a legit nutritional/educational program created by people who really care about helping others lead a healthier lifestyle, and that literally anyone could benefit from it. CK showed me that I was using the wrong foods to fuel my body, and expecting those foods to do things for me that they just weren’t designed to do.

About the program:

The program is web-based which makes it real easy to follow. You receive daily emails with checklists and lessons full of information, assignments to help you practice the habits, and even though they came to me daily I never felt like there were too many. The coaches do an incredible job of educating you on the fundamentals of nutrition and build your knowledge at a very easy pace over the 12 week program. Coaches are easy to talk to and quick to answer any questions that you have (Kellar was clutch here!).

The best part of the program for me is that it prepares you for the rough days. When you’re busy, don’t feel great, or just want to eat whatever you want to eat – good habits start to kick in and you aren’t as vulnerable to making poor decisions.

I’m pretty analytical and don’t typically do something just because I’m told its good for me. But explain to me why its good, and I’ll do it forever! This program gives you the knowledge and confidence to continue a healthier lifestyle beyond the 12 weeks.

My progress:

I lost 29 pounds and a total of 29.4 inches.

T1D + CK

I’ve been a Type-1 Diabetic going on 15 years.

Living with T1D is a full-time balancing act requiring constant attention to avoid acute, life-threatening hypoglycemia (low blood sugar) or the long-term damage done by hyperglycemia (high blood sugar). Blood sugar levels must be monitored with finger pricks throughout the day and night. Insulin doses must then be carefully calculated based upon activity and stress levels, food intake, illness and additional factors. These calculations are rarely perfect resulting in tremendous ups and downs and mental exhaustion.

People with Type 1 have a life expectancy that is 12 years shorter, on average, than that of the average population. I refuse to accept this statistic and will do everything that is within my control to live a long, active and healthy life. This is why I signed up for the Clean Kitchen 12 week Challenge.

With weight gain from medications and it being a constant battle to stay in good control, I wanted to see if Clean Kitchen could help with my eating habits, which in return would help my blood sugar levels.

My fasting blood sugar was a little high on Day 1 of Clean Kitchen. But after 12 weeks in Clean Kitchen my basal insulin was reduced by 45%, my bolus insulin reduced to 0.5-1, and lowered Hg a1C by 0.3.

I could not be happier with the results. I feel better, have great energy, slept better, and lost extra weight I had picked up. But the biggest difference Clean Kitchen made was in my diabetes. And for that I will be forever thankful. I lowered my hemoglobin a1c from 6.8 to 6.5 (which is awesome), and I did it while reducing my basal insulin consumption by 45% and drastically reducing my bolus insulin for food intake!

I lost 10 pounds and 16 inches from my body!
